Commercialization
The gap between a great technical idea and a viable business is execution. I've done it in biotech, healthcare, and regulated consumer products — from IP licensing and Phase I clinical trials to scaling a distillery 15× in four years.
From idea to revenue
Most technical founders are excellent at the science or engineering. The hard part is navigating the regulatory landscape, structuring the business, raising money, and getting to market without burning all your capital on the wrong steps.
I've co-founded and built companies in biotech (Orcrist Bio, Stem Cell Therapeutics) and regulated consumer products (Bragg Creek Distillers), and spent years inside large regulated organizations at Alberta Health Services. I understand both sides — what it takes to build from scratch and what it takes to operate at scale inside a compliance-heavy environment.
What I help with
Commercialization is not a single thing — here's where I typically engage.
Business Case & Feasibility
Honest assessment of market opportunity, technical risk, regulatory pathway, and capital requirements before you go too far.
IP Strategy & Licensing
Structuring your intellectual property to protect value, enable licensing, and support capital raises. Based on real biotech IP experience.
Regulatory Pathway Planning
Mapping the regulatory requirements for your product category — from clinical trial applications to food and drug compliance strategies.
Capital Strategy & Fundraising
Building investor materials and navigating capital raises. I've led seed rounds, private placements, and public market transactions.
Go-to-Market Execution
From distribution strategy to launch operations. Not just planning — building the commercial infrastructure to hit the market.
Operations Build-out
Standing up manufacturing, supply chain, and QA systems that meet regulatory requirements without killing your margins.
Industries where I've done this
Biotech / Life Sciences
Clinical development, IP licensing, Phase I applications, and capital raises for drug and diagnostic companies.
Regulated Manufacturing
Food, beverage, and consumer products — from production build-out to distribution and retail launch.
Healthcare Services
New service lines, clinical programs, and care delivery models that operate inside regulated frameworks.
Work in practice
An example of what this looks like on a real engagement.
Production Planning for a Ready-to-Drink Beverage Facility
An early-stage beverage company needed to know whether their proposed production model could support a three-year sales forecast — and if so, what combination of equipment, facility space, and process design would get them there without overbuilding. The engagement translated their business plan into a manufacturing strategy.
